Yiwu in China’s Zhejiang Province, is home to the world’s largest general merchandise wholesale market, which sells goods to all parts of the globe. Business from the city is changing dramatically due to the opening of the Yixinou Railway in 2014, which starts from Yiwu Station. Built as part of China’s One Belt, One Road (OBOR) policy, the 13,000 kilometer route can transport cargo to Madrid in just 21 days. We follow a local wholesaler and some migrant workers to see how their fortunes have changed as they prepare for this year’s busy Christmas season.
